While looking for costume supplies the other day I came across some items which would be perfect for the black light setting at Black and Light Ball 2012. Check out this neon fringe! Looks like the microscopic feelers or hairs on an amoeba. They also had huge fat pipe cleaners and cyberlocks in tons of colors.
If this looks like something you need for your black light reactive Black and Light Ball Microbiology costume go to:
East Coast Trimming Corp.
142 West 38t Street
between Broadway and 7th Aves
They are very helpful and friendly!

BLACK & LIGHT BALL is a fundraiser for Kostume Kult and Disorient, both 100% volunteer-run art collectives. Proceeds go entirely towards creating our Burning Man theme camps and public art projects.

HAUNTCON 2012

Next weekend I will be attending my first HALLOWEEN CONVENTION called HAUNTCON! Bet you didn't even know there was such a thing. There are conventions for everything these days so why the hell not?! Its basically a trade show for Haunted House and Halloween attraction owners as well as make up artist, mask creators, even stage designers! With my rented car I'm gonna pack up my best costumes and business cards, drive to Monroeville, PA and hit the trade floor to learn new makeup techniques and hopefully make some new friends. I've already signed up for a Hands-on Workshop in the Application of Foam Rubber Appliances. Halloween in May is such a treat! Saturday night is the Costume Ball with a Dawn of the Dead theme. I'm hoping to create a pretty kick ass zombie dress. *Hint: muslin + fake blood. There are also haunted house tours each night. In the interest of full disclosure, I am not the biggest haunted house fan. The paralyzing fear outweighs any fun I could possibly have. I'm a whimp. Perhaps after this convention I will work on being less of a wuss and get out there and enjoy the scarier part of my favorite holiday. After watching that video I realized I am going to need a lot of room in my suitcase to bring home my new makeup purchases! I'll be tweeting throughout my time there so follow me @kostumegirl Better yet if you are going, email me kostumegirlscloset@gmail.com and we can talk costumes.
